Young Single Mums Resources For Complete Health And Nutrition Requirements

Once a single mother has her housing and childcare resources taken care of, her next mission is to make sure that her child has adequate heath and nutritional treatment. On a modest income and without any parenting skills or counseling, teenage mothers may not know the significance of good nutrition and nurturing a baby properly. Young single mums resources should contain a list of health and nutritional needs that will help both the baby and mother to live and thrive.

Some young single mums might be happy to breast-feed their newborn, as studies have indicated that breast-feeding gives an infant good general health and a sturdy immune system. However, many teenage single mums might not understand how to breast-feed, or may fear that breast-feeding will alter the shape of their breasts. The La Leche League is a resource where one can get information about breast-feeding, and in some areas they do take an interest in assisting young single mums, by arranging specialized discussions for them. There are hardly any other young single mums resources that address the advantages of breast-feeding as thoroughly as the La Leche League.

The WIC is a federally funded program, created to provide low income mothers with nutritious foods, nutritional instructions, and referrals to specialized health care. Generally, the program caters for children up to 5 years and the mother needs to qualify for the program, based on earnings and other aspects. The program is implemented by the states and one must contact the state's social service center to register. As far as young single mums resources go, this is one of the better nutritional assistance programs that the Federal government funds.

By enlisting in the state's department of social services, the young mother might have additional young single mums resources made available to her, like food stamps. Food coupons are now given in the form of an electronic benefits transfer card, which works just like a debit card and can be very discreet. Qualifying for benefits at the social services agency requires time and patience, but can give a level of support that is reliable for a short period of time.

Public schools give the opportunity to low income residents to have their children join in the national school lunch system. Breakfast and special milk programs are also being offered. These programs are partially funded by the Federal government and are there to make certain that children obtain proper nutrition while in school.

Neighborhood food banks offer a limited number of groceries to those that apply. The food banks are usually privately funded, but the number of forms to complete is only small, compared with applying for food stamps. In a pinch, many families depend on their neighborhood food banks to fill their pantries when they are low on money. Local food banks have to be one of the most useful of all young single mums resources, as they encourage single mums to use their cash for some of their other products.
